Job Overview:

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join the team as a General Manager for a 40 bedroom predominantly group and tour hotel on Torquay’s sea front.

Main responsibilities:

As the General Manager you will be expected to take complete control and accountability for the day to day operations of the hotel, ensuring the Head of Departments are meeting set criteria. You should seek and develop every opportunity to maximise revenues and profit.

Duties will include:


  • Planning and implementing longer term strategies to enhance business potential for the Hotel in line with the Company Strategy.
  • Communicate to the Company on a regular basis on the performance of the business successes and highlighting any potential risks for the Company.
  • Ensure control of all costs throughout each department, encouraging correct stock ordering and minimising waste.
  • Identify support needs for the business and each department.
  • Manage, encourage and develop all employees to ensure they consistently achieve the highest hospitality standards.
  • Ensure the Company Health and Safety, Food Safety, Fire Safety and COSHH legislation is adhered to.
  • Deal with employee relations issues professionally and legally.
  • Coordinate action for selling initiatives in each department and monitor effectiveness. 

The ideal candidate:

The ideal candidate would posses outstanding team management skills, strong knowledge of HR practices and a good financial acumen. At least 3 years in a similar position is required along with knowledge of rooms management and food and beverage operations. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of leading a team to achieve performance and operational targets.
